John Deveney is not only DEVENEY’s president and founder; he’s a national leader in travel and tourism, known for some of the industry’s best campaigns, results and counsel in strategic marketing and communication. A New Orleans native, John attended Loyola University New Orleans, first graduating in 1988 (later returning for a master’s degree in mass communication).
In November 1996, John left his position at a growing public relations agency to forge a new path. His own. In opening DEVENEY, John created a new approach to professional communication, specializing in the areas of crisis, healthcare, tourism and hospitality. In his time here, John has led on-site communications during the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, managing more than $400 million in media scrutiny in war-like conditions. For his efforts, John received his twelfth IABC Gold Quill and was named PR News’ “Agency Executive of the Year” in 2006. He also led Louisiana’s Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism through the BP oil spill nightmare, reshaping public perception and preserving the state’s $9.4 billion tourism industry.
When he’s not winning industry awards or speaking internationally, John enjoys working out hard at the gym and the dinner table and has trouble deciding between shrimp, oyster or soft shell when it comes to po’boys.
Carrie DeVries works as an Accounts Supervisor at DEVENEY, leading the agency’s public relations division. Since her graduation from Louisiana State University in 2005, Carrie has spent more than a decade in the public relations industry. A former news producer for WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge, she knows what makes a good story – and how to tell it well.
Before joining DEVENEY in November 2012, Carrie worked as a Senior Account Executive for The Ehrhardt Group, where she served clients like Galatoire’s restaurant, Harrah’s Casino and The Roosevelt New Orleans Hotel, a Waldorf Astoria property.
She continues to work in the hospitality and tourism industry, leading DEVENEY’s efforts for clients like Chef Emeril Lagasse’s restaurants in New Orleans, and Arnaud’s Restaurant and the French 75 Bar, among others. Her outstanding work led to her designation as an agency partner in 2017. In that role, Carrie oversees organizational direction and business strategy on behalf of the agency.
On the weekends, you’ll likely find Carrie wandering through the French Quarter and other parts of the city – with camera in hand – taking in the sights and sounds that lured her here back in 2008. At the same time, checking items off of her ever-evolving New Orleans’ bucket list, like trying the latest and greatest restaurants, to riding in her first Mardi Gras parade as a member of the Krewe of Iris.
Joe Snowden serves as DEVENEY’s Chief Strategy Officer. Joe has two decades of experience running one of Southeast’s leading integrated marketing agencies. He also spent five years as a corporate chief marketing officer, and he has a real understanding of client-side dynamics. Joe’s specialty is marketing integration, and he’s very metrics and ROI-focused.
At DEVENEY, Joe works with our clients on strategic planning, branding, integration and outcome-based marketing. He also leads business development and works with our clients to create optimal service paradigms based on their specific needs.
Joe has built over forty successful brands and has led strategic planning for national and international clients. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors at Florida State University’s College of Communications and has served on boards of directors of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, Atlanta Chapter; Worldcom Public Relations Group, Americas Region; and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He has been a featured speaker at advertising, PR, and technology conferences and has won numerous awards for marketing effectiveness and creativity.
Before her work with DEVENEY, Andy spent 10 years immersed in the digital marketing world, working with clients specializing in hospitality, tourism and healthcare. She spent six of those years with an award-winning digital agency, leading their social media team on accounts like GoNOLA and Hotel Monteleone. Later she left to serve as the first Chief Marketing and Operating Officer for the NOLA Distilling Company, guiding the startup’s marketing and logistical direction.
Currently, Andy works as DEVENEY’s Digital Supervisor, leading our Digital Team with various clients like Studio Health, Deutsches Haus and Southern Quality Ford. In her work, she develops and fosters DEVENEY’s social media and digital strategies. Additionally, she guides our clients as they work to catch up in the digital world.
In her off-time, Andy coaches volleyball in addition to volunteering with the Anti-Defamation League. Most rainy days you can find Andy snuggled up with her pup Dank, a Hurricane Katrina rescue.
Anne Miller began her advertising career at Tulane University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology. In the 18 years since, she’s worked throughout the industry, managing the marketing for dozens of clients. She remains engaged with her clients, leveraging her years of experience to supply them with top-level marketing guidance.
At DEVENEY, Anne serves as the Advertising supervisor, overseeing her division’s marketing efforts. She regularly works with clients like Saint Xavier University, Mississippi Power and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, helping them connect with their large audiences. Specializing in DEVENEY’s LifeCare and LifeStyle practice areas, Anne most enjoys working with clients in the food and beverage, health care, hospitality and tourism industries.
At the end of the day, you’ll probably find Anne letting her hair down and putting her feet up while sipping a nice glass of La Croix and listening to “This Must Be the Place” by Talking Heads.
Tony Norman is DEVENEY’s Creative Director. For more than 20 years, he’s been creating work that’s thoughtful, beautiful and effective for a host of nationally recognized accounts. Tony cut his teeth as a copywriter at BBDO in Atlanta, where his work for Cingular Wireless first garnered him national recognition as a writer.
From there, he moved to New Orleans, where he’s since overseen a host of breakthrough marketing efforts for a diverse roster of brands, including The National World War II Museum, Zatarain’s, Kennedy Space Center, The Audubon Zoo & Aquarium, New Orleans Saints and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, to name a few.
His work has been featured in advertising’s most prestigious award shows and publications including: Print, CA, The One Show, the Adrian Awards, the ADDYs and the Effie Awards. When he’s not bringing great ideas to life for clients, you can find him enjoying the great outdoors with his two kids or restoring his vintage ’52 Airstream travel trailer.
Jess Civello is a Senior Account Executive at DEVENEY, specializing in media relations and event coordination for a wide variety of clients including Bayou Rum, Windsor Court Hotel and The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk. An Alabama native, Jess holds a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from Troy University and a master’s degree in mass communication from Loyola University New Orleans.
With more than 14 years of experience ranging from startups and nonprofits to higher-education institutions and PR agencies, Jess has landed features in a variety of print, broadcast and digital outlets, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Huffington Post, among many others. She’s also spearheaded countless events, including press conferences, grand openings, ribbon cuttings, press FAMS and fundraisers.
In her free time, Jess serves as the co-founder and director of Culture Collision, an annual, citywide event dedicated to encouraging participation in the New Orleans arts and culture scene. Through her work with Culture Collision, she provides arts organizations with a collective voice and a platform for collaboration and promotion.
Brittany Cruickshank isn’t just a Senior Account Executive at DEVENEY; she’s a seasoned veteran, having first joined the team as an Associate in 2009 following her graduation from Loyola University New Orleans. She quickly became a communication strategist and media relations expert, personally handling the Associate program. In 2011, Brittany departed to pursue her dream of exploring Asia, spending much of her time working as an ESL teacher in South Korea.
Since she returned to DEVENEY in 2015, Brittany has quickly reassumed her responsibilities, now leading the LifeCare Team. She has worked with University Medical Center New Orleans, Touro, Terrebonne General Medical Center, Children’s Hospital, Saint Xavier University, Aflac and Peoples Health. She still leads DEVENEY’s young Associates, guiding them through their time at the agency.
Although she misses her adventures overseas, travel is still a passion. Brittany is thrilled to call New Orleans home again, as she trades the elephant rides, pad thai and temple stays for streetcar rides, po’ boys and parades.
Lindsey Andry is a PR Account Executive at DEVENEY, managing LifeCare and LifeStyle accounts since she joined the agency in 2016. Lindsey’s worked and competed in the public relations industry since her time in undergrad at Loyola University New Orleans. There she was chosen as one of five seniors to represent Loyola in a national competition for the Public Relations Society of America. Her team placed third nationally for their campaign, and they received a highly coveted Silver Anvil from the New Orleans chapter of the PRSA in 2014.
Upon graduating from Loyola, Lindsey landed a job as a communications strategist with a local agency. There she managed public relations efforts on behalf of many clients including B.B. King’s Blues Club, Junior League of New Orleans, Smart Financial Credit Union and more. Two years later, she joined DEVENEY as an account executive, specializing in media relations, strategic partnerships and special events. Since then Lindsey’s worked with accounts for Touro, New Orleans Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk and more.
Outside of the office, Lindsey pursues her passion for the performing arts on stage in local community theater productions, volunteers as a member of the Junior League of New Orleans and spends time with her husband and new addition, Preston.
Denise has a B.S. in communication with a minor in business from St. John’s University in New York, NY. With the skills she acquired over the years in the industry, Denise came to DEVENEY with over 14 years of experience, 9 of which were spent working in-house for Procter and Gamble.
At DEVENEY, Denise works on several crisis accounts by developing messaging strategies, approaches, stakeholder communication, statements, press material, consumer-facing language and media relations plans acting as an extension on behalf of clients.
She also manages advertising and public relations for accounts such as Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Lyft, and Fisher Phillips. Denise aids these brands in new business divisions where she works with new business leads to creative approaches, ideation, plan building and overall direction. Denise is a master at defining target audiences and tactical support for clients. Her expertise allows for her to lend strategic counsel on business approaches across several accounts while working with account leads to develop public relations strategies and approaches.
When Denise is not busy, she enjoys attending live music shows, crafting for Mardi Gras, cooking and quaffing an occasional cocktail or two.
