Are you looking for the internship experience that will set you apart from your peers as you embark upon your chosen profession? Whether you’re a current student or have recently graduated college, DEVENEY’s Associate Program is the ideal opportunity to gain invaluable skills at the start of your career. Here at DEVENEY, associates are part of the team, diving into a variety of projects and contributing with fresh perspectives. But what do the lives of our amazing associates look like? Follow our Day in the Life of a DEVENEY Associate blog series to learn more.

Day in the Life of a PR Associate:

8:45 a.m. – Grab a chai latte from Lifestyle Lounge.

9 a.m. – Check emails and make a to-do list for the day. (There are always extra pens and highlighters in the copy room!)

10 a.m. – Meet with project leads to get up-to-date assignments. (Make sure to take notes in case there are questions later.)

10:30 a.m. – Upload Gallier House’s event, Amazing Grapes, to online community calendars.

11 a.m. – Create media list targeting lifestyle reporters from the region using Cision.

1 p.m. – Enjoy lunch with the team in the Lifestyle Lounge.

2 p.m. – Complete the online tutorial session: Tips and Tricks to Making the Best Media List.

3 p.m. – Hop over to creative to see if there’s a graphic design you can help develop.

4:30 p.m. – #DrinkDat

Every Friday, associates, staff, and John and Chris come together to enjoy #DrinkDat – happy hour in the Lifestyle Lounge to cap off the busy workweek. This is an excellent opportunity for associates to mingle and make connections with colleagues from every department.

About PR Senior Associate, Hannah Sheley

Senior Associate Hannah Sheley, from Geneseo, a small town in Illinois, spends her time outside of the office working at a doggy daycare facility and exploring her new city, New Orleans.

“Every day [at DEVENEY] is different for me, which is what makes agency life so unique,” Hannah comments. “Some days I’m fully immersed in writing content for press releases, pitches and blog content, and other days I’m creating infographics or pitching to local or national media. Every day offers distinct opportunities to grow and learn with new tasks.”

On a sunny afternoon, you can find Hannah in our DEVENEY courtyard talking strategy with her colleagues.

About PR Associate, Lizzy Welch

PR Associate Lizzy Welch is from Austin, Texas and has previously worked in the music industry in Los Angeles, California. Now living in New Orleans and finishing her senior year at Loyola University New Orleans, Lizzy is connecting her associate projects with her classes, such as Content Creation, taught by our very own president, John Deveney.

“My favorite part about working here is the freedom we get to just dive into the work,” she shares. Words of advice from Lizzy? “Always try to arrive a couple minutes early. It lets others know you are interested and happy to be there.”

About me, PR Associate, Veronica Bird

And as for me, a Tulane University Business School graduate from Boulder, Colorado, I love being a DEVENEY PR associate. It is the perfect jump-start to pursue my career goals in arts communications. I can work here twenty hours a week, and work at The Big Easy Foundation, which supports performing arts education in New Orleans. The culture at this agency really meshes with our amazing city. Every day that I walk through our DEVENEY doors, I can’t wait to see what project I’ll work on next.
